Ingested - Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering
This album sounds like a tank exploding inside the stomach of a constipated elephant. Hailing from the Manchester, UK, Ingested play as low, nasty, and crushing as they can. Take a look at the cover and the track listing and you'll get a pretty good idea of what you're in for. Three of the members take on vocal duties and they sound downright disgusting, which is completely appropriate for the lyrics they're spewing. Their goal, it seems, is to be as offensive and sickening as possible and they do a damn fine job. These guys give Cannibal Corpse a run for their money. The riffs range from plodding, chunky carnage to quick, surprisingly decipherable technicality, not to mention a fair share of pinched harmonics. The drums sound like machine guns, largely due to the heavy triggering they used in production, but also because this guy plays really, really fast.
To single out any song as the best or worst would be an almost futile endeavor. Each song is a sonic onslaught of brutal, crushing death metal with the slightest hint of hardcore influence. While I can't say this is groundbreaking material, Ingested have most definitely put their own mark on the style of music they play. The production, however, is a tad mechanical, which takes a slight toll on the listening experience. If you're not listening to the record at a decent volume, the drums and vocals kind of overwhelm the guitars. That said, there is really no reason not to crank this record unless you already have a splitting headache. Even then, it's probably not the worst thing you could do.
