The best metal albums of 2009 were a pretty hard year to determine. Unlike 2008, the music was relatively good. Although the deathcore/metalcore/whatevercore genres strongly took a nose dive, 2009 saw a huge growth in solid releases in the more typical genres of metal (black, death, power, straight up heavy metal). This list was tough, but I think I have found my favorite releases of 2009. One thing I was completely pleased with was the amount of great albums from bands that having been releasing music for 10+ years. I have decided to compile a list. I also decided, that after I found my top 10, I realized that from 1997-2009 I was only missing 3 years and never repeated one, so I decided to do a best of each year (I only had to research 2005, 2008 and 2009. When I say metalcore as well, I am not referring to early 90's crossover, which essentially is metalcore, but that is another story for another day. Consider the below a best of/essentials list for all your modern metalcore fans out there. I also noticed I am using the term more loosely towards the beginning, since I feel the genre was really more open at that point in time ('95-'02). Towards the end it pretty much becomes strictly metalcore though. Leave feedback and let me know the hate/love you have for the list. This list is done by year, not a best list, since each album I feel is essential to the metalcore genre....

This production was a non-stop whirlwind of classical rock,featuring an elaborate light show complete with pyrotechnics. And the synchronicity of it all was flawless....

Everyday a 200 new bands are formed and 200 old bands disappear, it’s the world of metal as all of us know it. Most of this happen without any of our knowledge or care since they didn't make it out of their parent’s garage. However, some of these bands do make it a little further, are able to grab our attention and then viciously move on without little reason leaving us wanting more, craving more and never getting it.
