Killwhitneydead “Nothing Less Nothing More”

Killwhitneydead - Nothing More Nothing LessKillwhitneydead’s new album, ‘Nothing Less Nothing More’ is a step the band has needed to take for a long time. And yes, I say that even though I have been a fan and have loved every KWD album released to date. However on ‘Nothing Less Nothing More’ Killwhitneydead have become a true band to be reckoned with in the heavy metal world.

Before, KWD have stuck to three simple things: solid hateful lyrics, catchy ass grooves, and movie samples. Well, the newest release has all of the three old reasons we all loved KWD, but it also adds a new growth in the band, a growth in the technicality of the music, a true sound for fans of heavy metal, not just thrash. KWD have been doing this for awhile now, and they chose the right course of action for this release. ‘Nothing Less Nothing More’ is already my favorite album of the year right above my second favorite, KWD’s ‘Hell To Pay’ which is in another review.

Killwhitneydead have managed to channel all the brutality you find in thrash metal, all the hate you find in KWD normally, into a true masterpiece for the minds of metal. I think some of this energy must have come from the fact that they played their first tour last year, but I can not be for sure. Touring the US, Killwhitneydead must have realized the true following and love for their music.

One of the other progressions you see with ‘Nothing Less Nothing More’ is song length. Although with their previous effort, ‘So Pretty, So Plastic’ you could tell they were breaking away from the 1-2 minute thrash anthems, it still felt like a 1-2 minute thrash hit. Now they feel more meaty coming in at 2-5 minutes.

This is also one of the best flowing albums I have ever heard. Each song flows smoothly into the next hate filled tune before the greatest ending ever, a cover of Tainted Love with a KWD touch. Even that flows perfectly into the second of the two releases; almost as if they were meant to be played in that order.

I will be the first, and hopefully not the last, to compare this album as a groundbreaking true metal masterpiece. The 80’s had Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’, the 90’s had At The Gate’s ‘Slaughter of the Soul’, and finally the 00’s have an album to go in the history books: Killwhitneydead’s brutal ‘Nothing Less Nothing More’. This is a must buy for any fan of metal music, no one should be without it.
